Bakemonogatari review

Posted : 14 years, 4 months ago on 8 November 2010 11:04 (A review of Bakemonogatari)

The camera angles are really annoying but the rest of the weird art style is interesting. Reminds me of tatami galaxy.

Its also a lot like muishishi in terms of weird magical creatures creating weird magical puzzles. And there's a lot about Japanese. These elements I don't like.

Character interactions, dialogue and some of the jokes are good. That's the main reason i kept watching it.

They seem to have a new OP and ED per episode so that's good.
My average is at 5.

R2:
"So, at best it can be seen as an interesting series of smart gags and wordplays in a psychedelic setting of artistic expression. At worse it can be seen as a big pile of weirdness that never seems to get anywhere other than confusing you and promising you things that eventually never happen."

Ha! "Bakemonogatari" is a portmanteau of "bakemono", meaning "monster", and "monogatari", meaning "story". An obvious English translation for the title would be "Monstory".

The Red Green Show review

FFFF LAUGH TRACK FFFF IT
This show ran on pbs!
Tim Taylor has nothing on these guys really. They built a Cloud Seeder.
Heres a sample of the jokes:
Whats importance of boolean logic in fuel injector cpu:
Mechanic: "Your domestic boolean logic by and large is not as fancy intricate or convoluted as your imported boolean logic"
"if you were to have your Set Theory break down it would be a lot easier to get your andor gates"...

The Familiar of Zero review

Posted : 14 years, 5 months ago on 3 November 2010 02:28 (A review of The Familiar of Zero)

Similar i thought to El-hazard; character teleports to different world where there's practically magic and hes important and surrounded by sexy ladies.

Seasons 3 and 4 are not good.

R.O.D the TV review

Posted : 14 years, 5 months ago on 31 October 2010 02:15 (A review of R.O.D the TV)

Characters and their interactions relationships (ie mundane life) ARE AWESOME but sometimes slow. I like the sweetness and the quirks. The fights are good and well animated. The way they use their paper powers is cool! Tension/suspense is not necessary for this show. I would have been perfectly happy just watching them kick ass.
The reason the sisters fight ppl and the story surrounding that is usually bad. Also some of the choices the characters make in the fights really ruin the seriousness of their life and death struggles. Or maybe they don't really care that much if they die. Half the time their choice of work happens like that too.

Dwarf Fortress review

Posted : 14 years, 5 months ago on 30 October 2010 10:34 (A review of Dwarf Fortress)

This game is a combo of simcity, sims and dungeon keeper. Simulation with objectives and detail. Practically no mouse! Complicated game but lots of tutorials including wikis and videos on utube. Graphics are available including much prettier tiles, an isometric viewer stonesence and even a full 3d viewer. However the interface is a huge pain to use. That is what is stopping me from playing the game right now.

For all its epic rpg simulation detail the interface kills it.

FreeFall Webcomic review

Posted : 14 years, 5 months ago on 25 October 2010 12:17 (A review of FreeFall Webcomic)

I liked it because its rather hard sci-fy and warm and fuzzy. Most jokes are not that funny and comedy gets in the way of story.

Empire: Total War review

"For ten years now, the AI, notorious for being erratically moronic in every installment, is still fully present in Empire: Total War, but does little to actually take away the sensation of being a megalomaniac."
"The turn-based portion is where you get your Big Picture of Wartime Fun Plan in motion as you recruit men, enter in diplomatic relations, attack opposing nations, and build brothels to keep the public order."
"As it stands, the decentralized model only simulates the amount of paperwork and approving and disapproving of building proposals any one monarch or president has to go through. I suppose that has its own kind of appeal."
