Elemental War Of Magic review

Posted : 6 years, 10 months ago on 31 August 2010 01:00 (A review of Elemental War Of Magic)

So far this is a bad game. First the pros:
Diplomacy is detailed and flexible. City building is good because most buildings shouldn't be built in most cities so there isn't too much microing around this. Construction orders can be given from the zoomed out 'cloth' view. That also saves lots of time. This game has good moding tools so you can fix some of its major flaws.

Biggest con is the very limited strategic depth variety and options. This is partly because of balance atm really leans against such things as melee heroes, magic damage mages rather than support or summon, and any variety in the tech tree order. But really the problem is that the math is very very simple. A unit has 4 stats that define everything. In tactical combat there's nothing to think about at all. This problem wont be fixed by the extensive in game modding tools.
Each civ has the same tech tree and no special units.

The simplest definition of a good strategy game is one that gives the player many viable options at every decision in the game. This gives replay-ability, makes the tedious entertaining and creates challenge. The only place this game fulfills is in diplomacy, somewhat in city-building and a tiny amount in choosing techs.

The ai is horrible but that will be fixed for sure.

The game is very buggy and will crash once every 1:30 but that will be fixed and doesn't matter because the game is simple, tedious and boring.

The documentation is very poor/brief. Use the strategy wikis.

For all the effort that must have gone into the 3d animation and art the information it conveys is paltry compared to the 2d drawn overmap. The user will spend 80% of their time looking at that. Basically, its really hard to tell what is what in the 3d map. This is very funny. Its almost a proof that the game would have been better 2d. Unfortunately tactical combat doesn't have this option but thankfully needs it less.

The auto-resolve ai is stupid and when squishy wizards need to level you will have to babysit.

There's still alot of tedious micromanaging even after limits on building types, smaller numbers of units, over-map build and auto-resolve. This is partly because the interface is unfinished and units need to auto-move at the beginning of the turn not the end and the spell casting requires specific unit positioning.

Go play masters of magic. Or age of wonders or civilization...

WATCH OUT HIS GETS DEPRESSING Even if it starts out cute the issues it deals with and other things prove the cuteness a deception.

X-Play review

When this show was still doing caustic joke stuffed reviews and good skits it was amazing. For a while it was my favorite show. Now that it just panders hype previews.... Actually, some of the reviews have incites.
"And the crafting! We haven't seen crafting this complex since" -Adam from the last good episode

The Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk review

Posted : 6 years, 10 months ago on 28 August 2010 12:35 (A review of The Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk)

The comedy in this show is amazing. So are the characters.

The setting/atmosphere of the first season is very good: A city of dungeon climbers, the quest, the competitive nature of the climbers and their co-operations. This works well with the main character's feelings and his relationship with his brother. Coopa is awesome!

Of course the anime has that flaw of believing in yourself to win battles but it doesn't dwell on it. Its actually more about others believing in the main character. It gives some appropriate consideration to the fact that minor characters die. Drags a little drama too long.

The second season gets continually more random and hard to get into.
"He will live forever as the sovereign of a vast nation.
Sounds awful.
Yes very." -dialogue

This is explained a little later on but i couldn't get into this part of the story. Fighting animation starts show only the weapons of the characters more and more. The little girls are creatively cute.

Darker than BLACK review

Posted : 6 years, 10 months ago on 28 August 2010 12:29 (A review of Darker than BLACK)

Animation, setting, action characters are all great but more then half of the time i really couldn't enjoy the drama and story. Well, some of the characters are horrible as some character's personal insanity/stupidity drives all the bad drama.

Blade of the Immortal review

dub probably.
Fights are great except some of the zooms and angles. The outcomes are always up in the air. Many characters choose peace or mercy. Story is unpredictable and driven by growing characters.

Spice and Wolf review

Posted : 6 years, 10 months ago on 26 August 2010 05:46 (A review of Spice and Wolf)

Favorite OP. Definitely romance over action cause Horo can beat anyone and half the anime is Horo talking with Lawrence. They have interesting things to talk about though. The economic explanations are sometimes hard to follow and wrong.
Btw Horo is squirrel not wolf.

Fruits Basket review

Posted : 6 years, 10 months ago on 17 August 2010 11:15 (A review of Fruits Basket)

Considering this is a shoujo romance its amazing that i enjoyed it. This is mostly because of the very varied and Exciting personalities and watching their decisions reactions and relations. Imagine watching Ichigo from bleach and a shoujo prince argue. Character's problems and how they resolve them (drama) is actually good too when its not over the top. Unfortunately its usually too long. I really wish this didnt happen. Though i haven't finished this series yet i want to write down my impression now.

Bleach review

Posted : 6 years, 10 months ago on 14 August 2010 04:46 (A review of Bleach)

What is with the hate towards this show? The first arc is awesome. Most of the 24+ OPs and EDs are awesome. Of course after the first arc the show really goes down hill. But 60 episodes of awesome is awesome. The characters are awesome. The music sound effects and voice acting are awesome. The story is awesome. The animation is only ok. After establishing the setting the story doesn't contradict itself. The characters never do anything stupid. Thousands don't die. The drama is never retarded. The fights are either fast or have actual tension.
